Other Info
| This Higo tsuba[肥後鐔] has been attributed to the Kamiyoshi[神吉] Tradition. Kamiyoshi is the family name of Higo metalworkers. In order to keep the traditions of Higo metalwork, the feudal lord Hosokawa[細川] ordered the skilled Hayashi[林] family's third generation Tohachi[藤八] (first generation Matashichi[又七], second generation Shigemitsu[重光]) to pass on all of the Hayashi family's secret techniques to Kamiyoshi Juhei[寿平], and his sons Fukanobu[深信] (1798-1851) and Rakuju[楽寿] (1817-1884). This Higo tsuba is an elaborate openwork tsuba made from high-quality jigane[地鉄], and depicted a pine and bamboo. It has passed the Hozon Tosogu shinsa[保存刀装具審査] in August 2024. |
