The veins of the front leaf are overlaid with gold, and three hollyhock leaves are displayed on the front, back, and side, with a butterfly set in place. The butterfly is said to represent change, beauty, and growth. This is an intriguing tsuba, perhaps a metaphor for the Tokugawa clan.
